About

Welcome to my sports writing portfolio. My name’s Sean Truckle and I’m an aspiring writer with a passion for all things sports. I write clearly and concisely, getting to the point without any B.S. I’m currently in my fourth and final year at the University of Western Ontario in the Media, Information, and Technoculture Honors Specialization program. In addition to my degree I’m also getting a Certificate in Writing.

Writing and sports have always been two passions of mine. For as long as I can remember I’d crowd around the television set on Saturday night with my dad and brothers to watch Hockey Night in Canada. I’ll never forget those exciting nights with my family (minus Mom, who isn’t a huge sports fan), although I’m sure the Toronto Maple Leafs would like to forget most of them. Then on Sunday afternoon we’d all take our same seats on the couch to eat snacks and watch hours upon hours of the NFL. Watching sports together quickly became a tradition in my house, and we’d commonly talk about the games and what we thought afterwards. Since then I’ve loved discussing sports, but as I moved away to university I lost a lot of the opportunity to discuss them with my dad and brothers.

That’s why I decided to writing about sports. From shorter game coverage pieces to long-form features, I found myself enjoying writing about sports more than anything else I’d written about, and began to notice improvements in my writing and analysis as I continued to pursue my passion.

Feel free to browse my portfolio, where you’ll find everything from straight forward coverage of basketball, football, and field hockey to humour-driven opinion pieces on what I’ve noticed going on in the sports world.
